Spanish classes in Mumbai

Mumbai is the one city on this list where the DELE and SIELE exams are actually held rather than merely prepared for, which turns the practical question from where to sit the exam into which of the two to sit. The city's Spanish demand also has a specific pharmaceutical face: Lupin, Sun Pharma and Cipla are all headquartered here, and Lupin in particular has built its Latin American business through two named acquisitions rather than a general export line.

Mumbai's demand is trade-shaped rather than factory-shaped. Export desks, shipping lines, consulates and banks need working proficiency for correspondence and negotiation rather than shop-floor instruction, and the learners are usually individuals whose employer will reimburse rather than cohorts booked by HR.

Almost entirely corporate in India. Pharmaceutical, chemical and engineering exporters running Latin American desks need commercial Spanish for quoting and customer relationships, not conversational Spanish for travel.

Lupin's move into Latin America is the most concretely documented of the three companies. It acquired the Mexican ophthalmic manufacturer Laboratorios Grin in 2014 and the Brazilian pharmaceutical company Medquímica in 2015, and both still operate today as Lupin subsidiaries. Sun Pharma and Cipla are also headquartered in Mumbai and are among India's largest pharmaceutical exporters, though neither publishes a Latin-America-specific breakdown in the way Lupin's two acquisitions make visible.

The learners this produces tend to sit in regulatory affairs, business development and finance rather than on a production line, and the level most of them ask for is enough to read a distributor contract or hold a call, not enough to draft one unsupervised.

Hispanic Horizons, in Bandra West, has been Mumbai's authorised DELE centre since 2014 and also runs SIELE sittings from the same address. Academia de Español, near the Andheri Sports Complex in Andheri West, is a separate authorised SIELE centre. Nobody choosing between the two exams needs to leave Mumbai to sit either, which is not true of any city on this list except Bangalore. Confirm the current sitting dates and fees directly with whichever centre you book, since each runs its own calendar rather than a shared one.

DELE is the older, level-specific diploma. A candidate registers for A2, B1 or B2 and either passes that level or doesn't. SIELE, launched in 2016 by Instituto Cervantes together with the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the University of Salamanca and the University of Buenos Aires, tests all four skills in a single sitting and reports a score across the whole scale, closer to how IELTS or TOEFL work, which is why some employers and universities outside Spain treat it as the more flexible proof of ability. It is also delivered and marked electronically, which is why Mumbai's two SIELE centres can run it on a tighter turnaround than a paper-based DELE sitting. Instituto Cervantes' own hour structure, 60 hours of instruction per CEFR level, applies to preparation for either exam equally, since both are built on the same six-level framework.
