Why Korean, here
Delhi NCR runs on corporate headquarters, diplomacy and services
Delhi NCR is the one Indian region where Korean has an academic home as well as a corporate one: Jawaharlal Nehru University has taught it since 1976 and now runs it as a full degree subject, while Samsung and LG both run large operational centres in Noida and Greater Noida. It is also one of the more consistently offered TOPIK cities, alongside Bengaluru, when sittings run in India.
Delhi NCR combines head-office functions in Gurgaon and Noida with the largest concentration of embassies, cultural institutes and visa processing in India. A significant share of learners here are preparing for a specific certificate tied to a visa rather than for work.
Korean manufacturers in India, study in Korea, and the EPS employment route. Teaching capacity in India is thin, which is why this sits at the specialist rate and why we source individually.
Who learns Korean in Delhi NCR
Samsung R&D Institute India, Noida, was set up in 2007 and now has around 2,300 staff working from Logix Cyber Park in Sector 62 on software for Samsung's mid-tier mobile phones, which makes it one of Samsung's largest single software centres outside Korea. LG Electronics India has run a manufacturing plant at Greater Noida since 1998, alongside its later Ranjangaon facility near Pune, covering LED TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators and monitors for the Indian market.
Delhi is also where Korea's own institutions sit: the Embassy of the Republic of Korea is in Chanakyapuri, and KOTRA, the Korean government's trade promotion agency, runs one of its five Indian offices from New Delhi. That combination pulls in a different kind of learner, trade and diplomatic staff working on visas, tenders and bilateral programmes, alongside the engineers at Samsung and LG.
Sitting TOPIK from Delhi NCR
The Delhi venue is Jawaharlal Nehru University's School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, on New Mehrauli Road. Delhi has been included in nearly every recent round when TOPIK has run in India, including sittings where Delhi and Bengaluru were the only two centres offered nationally, so a Delhi NCR learner generally has more sitting choices through the year than most other cities, though each round is still confirmed separately.
Two study tracks in Delhi
JNU's Centre for Korean Studies is the older and deeper route: Korean has been taught there since 1976, first as a diploma, then as a full BA (Hons) from 1995 and an MA from 1998, and it became an independent centre offering BA, MA, MPhil and PhD programmes in 2013. The Korean Cultural Centre India, in Lajpat Nagar, runs a shorter route through its Sejong Hakdang, a King Sejong Institute branch teaching eight levels across three semesters a year, and Delhi University's Department of East Asian Studies runs part-time certificate and diploma courses alongside that. A working learner in Delhi NCR is choosing between a multi-year academic degree and a semester-by-semester certificate track, not between a course and no course at all.
