Why Korean, here

Bangalore runs on IT services, product engineering and aerospace

Bangalore's Korean-language demand comes almost entirely from two large technology centres, Samsung's biggest R&D operation outside Korea and LG's biggest R&D operation outside Korea, both headquartered here rather than staffed for a single project. The city also has its own TOPIK test centre and two separate places to study Korean, at Christ University and at a King Sejong Institute branch in Kothanur.

Bangalore's requirement comes almost entirely from delivery teams supporting European and Japanese clients, plus engineers preparing for onsite postings. Classes here run early morning or late evening around client time zones, which is a scheduling problem more than a teaching one.

Korean manufacturers in India, study in Korea, and the EPS employment route. Teaching capacity in India is thin, which is why this sits at the specialist rate and why we source individually.

Who learns Korean in Bangalore

Samsung R&D Institute India, Bangalore, known as SRI-B, is one of Samsung's roughly thirty global R&D centres and its largest outside South Korea, working across vision, language, on-device AI, connectivity and IoT out of Bagmane Constellation Business Park in Doddanekkundi, where it moved its main office in 2012. It was originally set up in 1996 as Samsung Electronics India Software Operations, and staff working directly with Korean product and engineering teams have been the steadiest source of demand for working Korean in the city ever since.

LG Soft India, based in Indiranagar since 1996, is LG Electronics' own largest R&D centre outside Korea, covering media solutions, home appliance and air solution software, vehicle software, webOS and AI. Between the two companies, Bangalore has a resident population of engineers who deal with Korean counterparts as a normal part of the job, rather than occasionally.

KOTRA, the Korean government's trade promotion agency, runs one of its five Indian offices in Bengaluru, on top of the two R&D centres, which means the city's Korean-language need extends past engineering into trade delegations, supplier introductions and local business development for Korean companies scouting the south Indian market.

Sitting TOPIK from Bangalore

CMR Institute of Technology is Bangalore's TOPIK venue, offering both TOPIK I and TOPIK II with dedicated seats for each level. Along with Delhi, Bengaluru has been one of the more consistently offered centres when TOPIK runs in India, including rounds where the two cities were the only centres on offer nationally, though the exact months and seat counts are announced separately for each sitting rather than fixed for the year. That makes CMR Institute of Technology worth checking first even for a learner who would rather sit the exam elsewhere in the south.

Two ways to study Korean already in the city

Christ University runs Basic Korean as a six-month course in two levels, from July to December and January to June, through its Centre for Korean Studies, which has held exchange agreements with six Korean universities since 2013. Separately, a King Sejong Institute branch operates in Kothanur, teaching the foundation's own curriculum outside the university system. A Bangalore learner can choose a university course with a fixed academic calendar or a Sejong-style track with its own level structure, depending on which fits their schedule better.
